My first project in my role as WBIR's image producer was the 2014 Fall Image campaign creatively titled, "2014 Fall Image Campaign" (I know). The "music video" style was inspired by my very creative predecessor, Jamie. The whole concept was to have my family sit around a bonfire and laugh like they were in a late 90's Gap commercial (head thrown back, over the top, belly laughs). While most of the laughs were staged, my grandparents got a huge kick out of me having to tell them over and over not to look at the camera.
Over time, I ended up sticking with this formula to usher in new seasons for our viewers - even throwing in a few farm animals and two of my co-worker's adorable children along the way.
I'm happy to say that the series is now complete with all four seasons! Here they all are in their "Straight from the Heart" glory...
This commercial debuted on Black Friday (because anything remotely close to resembling Christmas before Thanksgiving is simply wrong) and my Dad, excited to be featured in the spot, set his DVR to record the promo when it played live. He then proceeded to watch and re-watch the spot on the recording (all while having the link on his computer).
What appeared to be my mother baking a cake was actually just us throwing random ingredients into a bowl, mixing the concoction around and then using a store bought cake for the final product (that's how they all do it anyways, right?). We had to shoot the ending first due to my family wanting to dig into the Kroger masterpiece.
For this commercial, I had planned on renting some baby chicks, but that fell through the morning of the shoot. In a panic, I made the decision to purchase these chicks with my own money. So for around five hours, I was the very proud father of these three energetic nuggets (poor choice of words). They are currently thriving on a extended family member's farm the last I checked.
The bunnies featured are the beloved pets of renowned playwright, Lisa Soland (Writer and star of The Name Game opposite Richard Hatch). As you can see by the grass, we sometimes have to shoot these seasonal spots before the season has actually arrived in full.
For the final installment of the series, I present to you a ridiculous behind the scenes video from (believe it or not) a work day, ha!
